What is the "Blue Zone”?

From the Ordinance on Traffic Organization in the Municipality of Sofia:

Paid Vehicle Parking Scheme

Section 2.1.

Short-stay Parking Scheme – Blue Zone (Amended by Resolution No. 301 as per Minutes No. 14 from 12.06.2008)

Art. 45, Par. /1/ By order of the mayor of the Municipality of Sofia issued under his legal powers, and in accordance with plans adopted by the Municipal Council, was sanctioned the introduction of the Blue Zone Scheme for short-stay paid parking in public streets, squares and car parks in the municipality for vehicles weighing no more than 2.5 tons and minibuses or buses that seat up to 12 passengers. The scheme is in force on weekdays from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm.

Par. /2/ Amendments and supplements to the list of streets, squares and car parks owned by the municipality, where the Blue Zone Scheme for short-stay paid parking is in force, shall be made by order of the Mayor of the Municipality of Sofia.

Art. 46. Payment verification and monitoring of the actual time the vehicle has spent parked in the Blue Zone shall be regulated in line with Art. 5, Par. 1 of this Ordinance.

Art. 47. By an order pursuant to Art. 45, Par. 1 of this Ordinance, the Mayor of the Municipality of Sofia may implement temporary and permanent limits on parking in the Blue Zone.

Art. 48. By an order the Mayor of the Municipality of Sofia may temporarily or permanently close parts of or complete sections of the Blue Zone whenever properly licensed public or private events are being held.

Art. 49. Parking spaces in the open-air parking zones for short-stay paid parking known as the Blue Zone shall be indicated by road surface markings, road signs and signboards on which are indicated the terms for parking. CCTV and photographic cameras may be installed to monitor the spaces.
