AUTOTRANSPORT EAD

AUTOTRANSPORT EAD is a joint-stock company. The structure of AUTOTRANSPORT EAD includes a central administration and three operational departments (garages): 'Zemlyane', 'Malashevtsi' and 'Druzhba'.

AUTOTRANSPORT EAD performs transportation of passengers by public transport and other service, operational and transportation activities. Zemlyane Road Worthiness Department at 21 'Zhitnitza' St performs annual road worthiness tests of vehicles and buses. Information on Tel: 855 61 57.

As of April 2009, the public bus transport operates a total of 95 services within the territory of Sofia Municipality (this includes 31 lines operated by private transport operators in accordance with the Public Procurements Act).                

On these routes operate a total of 583 buses. 

Records show that annually the company clocks up in excess of 33 million km.

The company has 431 buses available for public transport.

In 2008 public bus transport conveyed approximately 260 million passengers.

The new requirements for modern transport necessitate a search for new more economic, more comfortable and environmentally-friendly vehicles. The alternative fuels program is being implemented - natural gas engines are being installed in public transport, which not only reduces pollution, but also saves on diesel. With the contribution of the Ministry of Environment and Waters, buses of the Ikarus make have been equipped with environmentally-friendly engines.

The development of Automated System Control and Monitoring was initiated in 1998. This is a computerized system for monitoring and tracking of the movement of buses along their route and time-keeping in real time. The first system of this kind was commissioned in 1989 in the Druzhba Garage. The Automated Control and Monitoring System was gradually substituted by a GPS system for control and coordination, and currently all public transport vehicles have been equipped with these devices to monitor and control them via the system.
