Sofia Integrated Urban Transport Project

         Sofia Municipality is planning to improve its public transport sector through the implementation of the Sofia Integrated Urban Transport Project. The project will be funded with EU grant under Operating Programme Regional Development. Total project cost amounts to EUR 61.685 million of which up to EUR 42.5 million will be provided by the European Regional Development Fund. The proposed Project comprises of several project components covering essential areas of the City’s urban transport system including the purchase of new trolleybuses; the construction of a new tram line to Darvenitsa residential district; the reconstruction of the tram line on Bulgaria Blvd.; the installation of intelligent traffic management system at selected intersections; the installation of electronic information boards providing real time passenger informationat public transport stops.

         The European bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) will lend a loan of up to EUR 5.958 million to Sofia Municipality, representing the Bank’s co-financing contribution to the Sofia Integrated Urban Transport Project. Sofia Municipality will be supported in the implementation and operation of the project components by the Sofia Urban Mobility Centre EOOD and the Sofia Electrotransport EAD. In addition to supporting the project, EBRD will provide a loan to Sofia Urban Mobility Centre EOODfor the extension of the e-ticketing system in the public transport. Currently the system covers only the electrical transport vehicles and will be implemented in the entire public bus transport as well.

          The Stakeholder Engagement Plan contains information about the planned project components and their expected environmental and social impacts and benefits, the main internal and external stakeholders, the existing stakeholder engagement activities, information channels and grievance mechanisms, as well as the information disclosure and stakeholder engagement measures that will be used by each organization.
