How long can the smartcard be used before purchasing (issuing) a new one becomes necessary?

The expected life of the smartcard is between 5 and 8 years, depending on its use. Due to safety reasons the Urban Mobility Centre EOOD has provided for the initial validity of the card to be 3 years. After expiry of this period the card validity may be extended for another 5 years provided that it has not been damaged.
