Introduction
Introduction of the system started in the summer of 2008.
Initially it will be introduced in electric vehicles – trams and trolleybuses. The introduction will be done in several stages:
I. Test operation:
-
Development of system databases;
- Testing of the operation of the devices in travel card outlets and vehicles.
II. Pilot operation:
-
Issuance of travel smartcards. At the same time the existing paper cards and tickets shall remain in use both on bus and electric transport.
-
Validation of credited smartcards in vehicles of electric transport.
-
Issuance of tickets from the ticket machine in trams and trolleybuses. Punch machines for tickets purchased outside the vehicle shall temporarily remain in use. Drivers will also sell tickets.
- Inspection of smartcards with the devices of the conductors.
III. Full introduction of the system in trams and trolleybuses.
- Gradual transfer to use of only smartcards for periodical cards.
For a certain time the old and new fare collection and validation systems will be in concurrent use in trams and trolleybuses.
Buses and underground trains will continue using the old system – with tickets purchased outside the vehicle and perforated in punch machines/validators.
All periodical cards will be electronic chip cards (smartcards) that can be credited with a period of 5 days, 1 or 3 months. These cards will not have to be validated on buses and underground trains, however, their validity will be verified by the conductors.
One-day cards will be made of paper.
The fare will remain the same!
The new system will change neither the periods for which the cards are credited nor their prices! Privileges granted in concession cards will also remain.
The price of single-trip tickets from a ticket machine is the same as that of the tickets purchased outside the vehicle.
Smartcards may be credited with 5 or 10 trips, which is identical to having a 5- or 10-journey voucher ticket.
The fare for these journeys may be collected only in trolleybuses and trams!
