Towing of illegally parked vehicles
The following forcible administrative measures may be enforced:
- Removal of a parked vehicle without the knowledge of its owner or authorized driver, when the vehicle is parked legally, but the circumstances necessitate its removal.
The local police department shall be informed of the new location of the vehicle. All costs incurred in the relocation of the vehicle shall be borne by the person or the organization that requested the removal.
- Relocation of a parked vehicle without the knowledge of its owner or authorized driver, when the vehicle is parked in violation of traffic rules in areas marked with a permanent road sign which warns that the parked vehicles may be towed away; also when the vehicle creates a hazard or makes the passage of other road users impossible.
In this case, traffic wardens, in accordance with in this ordinance, shall notify the district police station that has jurisdiction over the area whence the vehicle was moved of the new location of the vehicle.
Costs incurred in connection with the relocation of the vehicle shall be borne by the owner of the vehicle, which may be retained until payment of such costs. In such a situation the infringer shall be issued a ticket and a fee for safekeeping of the towed car shall be charged from the time of notification of the district police station.
Towed vehicles are transported to a specially designated impound lot on the territory of Sofia Municipality and shall be released from there after the costs of removal, transportation and parking have been paid.
The expenses and fees payable by the owners or the duly authorized driver of the towed vehicles are fixed and are determined annually by resolution of the Sofia Municipal Council.
